This project is composed of securement activities that will occur on private lands, at three locations in Coastal/maritime Quebec (Mingan Archipelago, Magdalen Islands and Longue-Rive,). Activities will occur near Nature Reserves, designated Wildlife Refuges or National Parks, and target habitat requirements of migratory bird species affected by the BP oil spill. Securement projects will conserve pristine habitat necessary for staging, pairing, nesting and molting of 5 target species (Red Knot, Common Tern, American Black Duck, Ring-necked Duck and Piping Plover). A direct link can be demonstrated between the populations of these affected species in these locations in Quebec and their migration through or wintering in the Gulf region.
