Project Description
The Amos Rehabilitation Keep (ARK) rescues about 1,500 animals each year, focusing on sea turtles and birds of the South Texas coast. The ARK is part of the University of Texas Marine Science Institute in Port Aransas, Texas. Port Aransas sustained a direct impact from Hurricane Harvey making it one of the hardest hit communities in the area. Hurricane Harvey quickly developed from a tropical storm into a Category 4 hurricane. In the hours leading up to the storm, the ARK devoted most of its resources into evacuating over 40 birds and securing 60 sea turtles. Due to careful planning, all of the animals of the ARK survived the hurricane, however the facility and the equipment of the ARK sustained extensive damage. We are requesting funding to facilitate necessary repairs to our facility. The ARK is largely funded through donations, this funding opportunity would be invaluable to the ARK allowing for us to have a speedy return to normal operations in our facility.
