Project Description

Conduct due diligence and planning needed to identify specific, high-priority properties to acquire and preserve intact the remaining undeveloped intertidal habitat within the City of Mobile, for purposes of: restoring and conserving priority habitats that support estuarine and marine fisheries and wildlife; connecting the community to its natural surroundings; and fostering an overall environmental ethic in the citizenry. Later project phases will acquire, protect and restore coastal habitats in three distinct areas: (1) up to 300 acres of riparian, wetland and upland habitats in the Dog River Watershed (Perch Creek) near its connection to Mobile Bay; (2) up to 40 acres of bay shore property in the Garrows Bend Watershed connecting to Helen Wood Park on the mouth of Dog River; and (3) up to 450 acres in the lower watershed area of the Three Mile Creek Watershed.
