Project Description
Mississippi's coastal watersheds include a mosaic of upland and wetland habitats that connect to coastal transition zones and ultimately estuarine and marine systems. This proposal includes invasive species management, vegetative and nuisance wildlife, and prescribed fire management with a focus in 3 key areas: the De Soto National Forest (Biloxi Flats), Grand Bay National Wildlife Refuge and on the Gulf Island National Seashore (GUIS) mainland and barrier island units in Mississippi. Projects will implement appropriate management on currently protected, federally-managed coastal ecosystems (US Forest Service, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and The National Park Service) as the first in a series of steps to 1) promote return of natural ecosystem function delivery to priority bays and estuaries and 2) enhance connectivity between landscapes towards landscape scale change.
