Project Description
This proposal focuses on redevelopment of 12 wetland projects representing over 1,200 acres of wetland habitat. Failure to reinvest in these wetlands will create a real risk of future loss of these critical wetlands. The work will be anchored by three large projects that are part of the Canadian Wildlife Service's National Wildlife Area system: 1) Big Creek, representing 217 acres at Long Point, and 2) St. Clair (two wetland segments), representing a total of 610.3 acres along the shores of Lake St. Clair. The investment will also refurbish 9 other wetlands in proximity to the two flagship projects, resulting in restoration of an additional 389.1 wetland acres. The 12 projects will provide critical breeding and staging habitat to meet the needs of many birds, including 26 of the species listed as priorities for BP Oil Spill Funding.
