Project Description
The goal of this project is to conserve critical uplands and wetlands within the Killarney Landscape of the Canadian Prairie Pothole Region to provide long-term benefits to species impacted by the British Petroleum Oil Spill. Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) will secure, via conservation easement, private lands to restore drained wetlands, convert croplands to upland habitat and retain important at-risk wetland and upland habitat. DUC will also secure conservation easements on private lands to retain intact tracts of high density/diversity wetland habitat intermixed with uplands at high risk of being converted to cropland. DUC's enhancement activities will restore small, shallow wetland basins via simple earthen ditch plugs and engineered control structures, in addition to restoring uplands by converting crops to hay, delayed hay and dense nesting cover.
