Project Description
Through this proposal Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) will conserve critical uplands and wetlands within the Allan/Dana Hills Landscape of the Canadian Prairie Pothole Region (PPR) to provide long-term benefits to species impacted by the BP Oil Spill. DUC will secure private lands to restore drained wetlands, convert croplands to upland habitat and retain important at-risk wetland and upland habitat. DUC will also secure conservation easements (CEs) on private lands to retain intact tracts of high density/diversity wetland habitat intermixed with uplands at high risk of being converted to cropland. DUC's enhancement activities will restore small, shallow wetland basins via simple earthen ditch plugs and engineered control structures, in addition to restoring uplands by converting crops to hay, delayed hay and dense nesting cover.
