Project Description

This project will improve public access and enjoyment of natural resources at the Escribano Point Wildlife Management Area, which is located south of the City of Milton in Santa Rosa County, FL. The improvements include: 1) an entrance kiosk, information signs, parking and facilities; 2) north beach hammock parking, interpretive, fishing and picnicking facilities; 3) primitive camping sites; 4) wildlife viewing facilities; 5) Escribano Point parking, interpretive, fishing and picnicking facilities; and 6) bear-proof containers for trash and storing food at campsites. Additionally, there will be a one-time assessment and mapping activities necessary for developing the site for outdoor recreation purposes (natural communities mapping, rare and exotic plant inventories, development of a hydrological assessment and water control plans for road access improvements, and herpetofauna survey). Funding for hurricane debris removal and road repair with hydrologic restoration is also included. Due to significant increases in construction and labor costs, the following elements have been removed from the project: 1) north beach hammock parking, interpretive, fishing and picnicking facilities, 2) primitive camping sites, and 3) wildlife viewing facilities.
