Project Description
The project will construct small-scale living shorelines that will reduce shoreline erosion and incorporate vegetation or other living, natural “soft” elements alone or in combination with some type of harder shoreline protection structure (e.g., oyster or mussel reefs or rock sills) for added habitat, protection, and stability. The living shorelines will maintain the natural continuity of the land-water interface and retain or enhance shoreline ecological processes. Projects will be located adjacent to properties with public shoreline access to view as demonstration projects. The project will protect coastal wetland habitat through the construction of nearshore breakwaters parallel to the shoreline for the purpose of reducing shoreline erosion.
