Project Description
The 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill affected close to 500 miles of coastline, across five states. Considering the size of the disaster, and the variety of habitats affected, great challenges to effectively remediate and protect the entire coastline still remain. Differences in environmental conditions, such as salinity, dissolved oxygen levels and temperature, can have drastic effects on the uptake and effects of contaminants on aquatic organisms.
