Project Description
The Louisiana’s Barrier Island Comprehensive Monitoring Program (BICM) collects regional geomorphic datasets along the outer coastal margins of Louisiana’s Gulf of Mexico shoreline and assesses changes in these barrier island and headland landscapes overtime. This program collects and records these changes on five year cycles. BICM 1 collected and delivered data for the 2005-2010 interval while BICM 2 repeated data collection and delivery efforts for the period from 2015-2019. BICM 3 is the current phase of this program and is slated to collect data over the 2020-2026 interval. In April of 2022, funding from the Louisiana Trustees Implementation Group (LA TIG) was secured for the BICM 3 phase (2022 to 2027) to support the third cycle of the BICM program. The BICM data provide valuable information on the geomorphological changes to restoration projects and aid in planning and design of future projects. A sizable acreage of the barrier island and headland habitats that are monitored by the BICM program was impacted by the Deepwater Horizon (DWH) Oil Spill. Therefore, the BICM program will address restoration priorities described in the Programmatic Damage Assessment and Restoration Plan and Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PDARP/PEIS). This Monitoring and Adaptive Management (MAM) activity is intended to support evaluation of regional restoration outcomes within the Louisiana Restoration Area; perform data aggregation and data management; resolve critical information gaps and uncertainties for restoration planning, inform restoration decision-making; and perform monitoring to inform the design and implementation of ...click on "More Info" link below
