Project Description

The Islenos Community Archive project is awarded to St. Bernard Parish under the RESTORE Act Direct Component program for the renovation of an existing wing of the Nunez Community College Library. The objective of the project is to create an exhibit space that will feature a rare collection of Isleños (descendants of the Canary Islands) artifacts donated to the school by the direct descendants of early St. Bernard Parish settlers for the promotion of tourism. The project will benefit the economy of the communities of St Bernard Parish by promoting tourism and the consumption of Gulf seafood at locales near historic Isleño sites and waterways throughout St. Bernard Parish. The subrecipient, Nunez Community College, will carry out the scope of work for the project.
