Project Description
Mr. Schiff is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Geography at Texas A&M College of Geosciences. He joined under an Ocean Drilling and Sustainable Earth Sciences fellowship. His work with deep-sea corals will help scientists and decision makers understand how climate change over the past 3,000 years impacted nutrient cycling and marine communities in the coastal Southeastern United States. He earned B.S. and M.S. degrees in Ecology and Ocean Sciences at the University of California, Santa Cruz before moving to Texas. He is passionate about public service, and has held elected roles in graduate student leadership at both University of California Santa Cruz and Texas A&M University. This passion led him to the Gulf Research Program, and he plans to transition into a public service career where he will use science to influence decision making for the biggest problems facing our natural environment and society.
