Project Description
B.G. Reguero is an associate researcher in the Institute of Marine Sciences and adjunct assistant professor in the Coastal Science and Policy Program at the University of California Santa Cruz. Dr. Reguero holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Hydraulics, a M.S. in Coastal Engineering from the University of Cantabria in Spain, and a M.S. in Applied Economics. Dr. Reguero’s work focuses on coastal risk and adaptation solutions. He studies waves and extreme sea levels in the context of a changing climate; assess flood and erosion risk and their socioeconomic impacts; and help communities identify and evaluate climate-resilient solutions. His work also focuses on the role of coastal ecosystems in coastal processes, and how nature-based solutions can be managed and used in risk reduction and climate financing (e.g., resilience insurance for sustainability). Dr. Reguero partners closely with different public and private agencies and groups including the US Geological Survey and The Nature Conservancy. He also serves in different committees and working groups for coastal resilience (e.g. NOAA, American Society of Civil Engineers, etc.), and consults for multilateral agencies like the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, or the UN Development Program. Dr. Reguero is also a Research Fellow with The Natural Capital Project at Stanford.
