Project Description
Michael Polito is an assistant professor in the Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences, College of the Coast and Environment, at Louisiana State University. He holds a B.S. and Ph.D. in Marine Biology from the University of North Carolina, Wilmington. He was a Devonshire Postdoctoral Scholar at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and currently holds an appointment at the same institution as a Guest Scientist. He is an ecologist with a focus on the food web dynamics of marine and coastal ecosystems in the Gulf of Mexico and around the world. His research uses stable isotopes and other geochemical biomarkers to explore species’ ecological responses to environmental stressors such as oils spills and climate change, and evaluate the ecological implications of coastal restoration and fisheries management.
