Project Description
The Wetlands Center project involves the construction of a 3,000 square feet building that will promote and enhance the protection and management of wetland resources and the application of sound science to wetland management efforts through training and educational opportunities. The Wetlands Education Center building will include a reception area; small meeting areas that can be adapted to accommodate future uses; displays highlighting the restoration and preservation of wetlands; multi-media, interactive exhibits; an 800-square-foot observation deck on a cantilever balcony overlooking the levee and wetlands; a first aid station; an audio visual equipment room; storage rooms, and restrooms. Public access to the Wetlands Center will be provided by an open-air walkway connecting the Wetlands Center with the Lafitteās Barataria Museum, the facility that will serve as the main point of entrance for visitors accessing the Wetlands Center.
