Project Description
The project is located in Jefferson Parish immediately northeast of Grand Isle and extends from Barataria Pass eastward to Pass Abel. The project restored approximately 295 (original estimate 371) acres of beach and dune habitat and created or restored approximately 144 (original estimate 160) acres of intertidal marsh habitat. These improvements protect approximately 14,000 linear feet of shoreline along West Grand Terre Island. Additionally, the project included a rock breakwater feature approximately 5160 feet in length on the bay side of the island and 600 feet of rock breakwater and a rock spur on the gulf side. This project was funded for Engineering and Design (E&D) through the Resources and Ecosystems Sustainability, Tourist Opportunities, and Revived Economies of the Gulf Coast States Act (RESTORE) and was then selected for implementation in the Louisiana Trustees Implementation Group (LA TIG) Final Restoration Plan/Environmental Assessment #6 in April 2020.
