Project Description

This project will work with the Gulf of Mexico menhaden purse seine industry to develop effective observer methods to collect information about interactions with sea turtles and other protected species in the fishery, and to identify opportunities for voluntary measures to avoid and reduce these interactions. The menhaden purse seine fishery currently lacks effective observer methods to assess interaction with sea turtles. That information would then allow NOAA and the industry to work together to develop effective voluntary practices and measures to avoid and reduce interactions in the future.
