Project Description
Dr. O’Shaughnessy holds a Ph.D. in environmental science from the University of Plymouth, an M.S. in coastal marine and wetland studies from Coastal Carolina University, a B.S. in marine biology from the University of North Carolina Wilmington, and a B.A. in communication from the University of Dayton. Her Ph.D. research focused on comparing the ecology of man-made coastal structures versus natural habitats, and exploring how to enhance these structures to support more natural assemblages of flora and fauna. As part of this research, she worked with the World Harbour Project, testing different habitat enhancement designs, and with the Welsh Government’s Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management unit. Dr. O’Shaughnessy’s research interests are focused on creating nature-based solution guidance tools tailored to coastal developers and practitioners and using scientific research to inform sustainable coastal adaptation designs.
