Project Description

This project supports the planning, design, permitting, construction, implementation, and post-construction monitoring of canal water restoration within the municipality of Islamorada, Village of Islands (Islamorada) in Monroe County, Florida. The canal water restoration project is intended to remedy the high nutrient loading and low dissolved oxygen impairing the waters by addressing the most significant causes of those conditions: accumulated organics, seaweed loading, and poor flushing and tidal flow, thus improving the canal waters and preventing the continued discharge of poor quality water into the nearshore waters of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.
