Project Description

This project will rehabilitate recreational facilities at the Okaloosa Unit of Gulf Islands National Seashore (GUIS). The project will last approximately two years, including design. Nearly every recreational opportunity at the project area will be enhanced by this project, including boating, picnicking, recreational vehicle (RV) amenities, and beachgoing. Specifically, the project will: 1) remove and replace an existing boat ramp; 2) remove and replace an existing restroom; 3) construct a floating pier, lift station, a boardwalk from the parking area to the beach, and fencing to protect beach and dune habitat; 4) remove some existing parking spaces and pavement, pave additional area for boat launch parking and access, resurface remaining parking lot and entrance/exit road, and add a gravel overflow parking area; 5) replace electrical systems; 6) remove and replace two RV sites and utility hook-ups; 7) remove existing picnic tables and concrete pads and construct a new picnic area pavilion with approximately ten picnic tables; 8) install automatic gates at the entrance and exit; and 9) re-vegetate some of the existing foot paths through beach and dune habitat and areas where pavement is removed.
